Gothic novels: Influences & inspiration
In this recording Alasdair talks about some of the work that influenced his Gothic novel Poor Things - from Thomas Love Peacock's Nightmare Abbey to Mel Brook’s film Young Frankenstein - and explains why he feels the opening of this book may be his best.
In the recording I incorrectly credited Gene Wilder as the director of Young Frankenstein instead of Mel Brooks and Alasdair rightly sounds rather dubious!
You can find a personal perspective on Alasdair and some of his work including Poor Things, in Who is Alasdair Gray?
