Our emblems

A Gray Space has 3 emblems. Where do they come from? What do they mean?

Purple Alasdair Gray drawing of winged baby curled inside brain cavity of a skull
Red emblematic Alasdair Gray drawing of heart with outspread wings
Green Alasdair Gray drawing of clasped hands with older lined one supporting smaller soft one

Inspiration and ideas

The brain baby is an image Alasdair used and re-made many times. Life in death. Ideas waiting to hatch. Winged inspiration.

Quintessentially Alasdair Gray. One of his own favourite concepts. And we love it too!

Love and creativity

The winged heart comes from Alasdair’s dedication in Kat’s copy of Poor Things. And when Alasdair died it became her tattoo in memory of him.

Creativity and love for Alasdair. With love from Alasdair. It’s the spirit of A Gray Space!

Work and community

Alasdair designed this bookplate for his sister Mora - Kat and Tracy’s mother - many years ago.

A tender image of support and connection. It represents the work and community that will build our Gray Space!
